  1. Was the layout preplanned? It emanates despite its confinement. It makes me think of self-binding substances, such as water or mercury. You should try this piece in an immensely blown open space which would overwhelm them, yet lend them such power. Despite their size as individual objects, we know there is a potential for magnetism if given proper energy, and because they look old, the viewer might assume they are high carbon. The idea of carbon brings me back to strength, self binding elements, and even the basis of life, which ultimately leads me to the power of community. Each spike bends from individual experience, but their individuality allows them to contribute to this aesthetic community that results in something collaboratively beautiful. Nice pics.

  2. I feel that the arrangement of spikes adds to the feel of "community", and the fact that they are slightly different in size and gesture. the spikes take on a figurative appearance that speaks of a tribe, or community, or even a flock of penguins huddled against the elements. There is also the sensation of motion, or even migration. The notion of being temporary leads my mind think about people of refuge, and searching for a place of peace. I think you should look more intently on the backgrounds for placing this piece on, as the floor here is very similar in tonality as the spikes. If these were placed in the snow, then the contrast in color tone would be much more dynamic. You could place these spikes on a piece of plywood to experiment with color as a background. This is a cool concept that can become a "moving" sculpture that finds itself changing to fit into different environments.
